  • Where Do We Go From Here ft Stacy Lattisaw
Born in Washington, D.C., Johnny Gill was discovered by singer Stacy Lattisaw after singing in his family's group Wings of Faith from age five. His solo career began in 1983 with the Top 30 R&B single "Super Love." In duo with Lattisaw, he scored an R&B Top Ten hit in 1984 with "Perfect Combination." In 1988, Gill joined New Edition, replacing Bobby Brown. In 1989 he sang on two R&B hits: "Where Do We Go from Here," a #1 by Stacy Lattisaw, and "One Love," by George Howard. Gill finally scored as a solo singer in 1990 with the release of his album Johnny Gill, which sold a million copies, topped the R&B chart, and made the Top Ten in the pop chart. Following the relative failure of 1993's Provocative -- which didn't produce any Top 10 R&B singles and only went gold -- Gill reunited with New Edition in 1996. A month after New Edition released Home Again in September of 1996, Gill released Let's Get the Mood Right.

The Quietstorm of "MIDNIGHT STAR"

The synth-funk unit Midnight Star scored several times on the charts during the mid-'80s, led by their double-platinum album No Parking on the Dance Floor in 1983. Just one of the successful acts on Solar Records (also including Shalamar , Lakeside , and the Whispers ), the group was formed in 1976 at Kentucky State University by the Calloway brothers, trumpeter Reginald , and trombone player Vincent , with vocalist Belinda Lipscomb . After signing with RCA near the turn of the decade, Midnight Star recorded their first album in 1980, The Beginning , with a conglomeration of studio players and producers. After moving to the Solar label by 1982, the group released Victory and then added a full band: guitarist Melvin Gentry , bassist Kenneth Gant , drummer Bobby Lovelace , and keyboard player Bo Watson .

Though the Calloways'production skills -- later used to full effect on tracks by Natalie Cole , Gladys Knight , and Teddy Pendergrass -- had pushed Midnight Star into the R&B charts during 1981-1982, with singles like"Hot Spot"and"I've Been Watching You,"the group was unprepared for the success of the first single from their third proper album, No Parking on the Dance Floor . "Freak-A-Zoid"hit number two on the R&B charts in mid-1983, and though it failed to make the pop Top 40, it pushed the LP over the platinum mark. "Operator,"the first single from their next album, Planetary Invasion , became their highest-charting single, making number 18 on the pop charts. By 1986, Headlines had become Midnight Star 's third album to at least sell gold, but it proved their last; both Reginald and Vincent left the group to form Calloway in 1988. (Incidentally, the Calloways had introduced future legend Babyface to Solar executives for his first job, and produced Babyface 's group the Deele ).Without Reginald and Vincent Calloway to lead the way, Midnight Star fell fast and far. A 1988 self-titled album flopped miserably, and 1990's Work It Out proved to be their last. Calloway , meanwhile, found success with their first single, 1989's"I Wanna Be Rich,"which hit number two on the pop charts. The track was their only major hit, followed by"Sir Lancelot"and the title track from their 1990 debut album All the Way . Calloway returned two years later with Let's Get Smooth , but the album proved their last. The brothers continued working, with Pieces of a Dream and Bootsy Collins , among others.

Quietstorm of "HEATWAVE"

R.I.P Johnnie

Johnnie Wilder, Junior died Saturday, May 13th at his Clayton home. He was 56 years old. Wilder was a Dayton native and lead singer of the group Heatwave, which he founded with his brother Keith. The group Heatwave hit the Top Ten R&B and pop charts in the 1970's with songs like, "Boogie Nights" and "Always and Forever".

Wilder's career had a setback after a traffic accident in 1979 that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Wilder's family still resides in the Dayton area.

  • 1976 - All You Do Is Dial
  • 1976 - Always and Forever
  • 1976 - Sho'nuff Must Be Luv
  • 1978 - First day of snow
  • 1978 - That's the way we'll always say goodnight
  • 1978 - This Night we fell
  • 1981 - All I Am
  • 1981 - Where Did I Go Wrong
  • 1982 - Look after Love

Completely cosmopolitan with international grooves to spare, Heatwave emerged as one of the disco era's funkiest dance groups. American serviceman brothers Johnnie Wilder and his brother Keith Wilder were based in Germany when they first began performing, and upon their discharge from the Army, the duo stayed in that country. Both singers, the pair gigged in clubs and bars with an assortment of bands while still enlisted. However, they were constantly looking to expand their horizons, and in mid year they relocated to the UK to link up with songwriter/keyboardist Rod Temperton.

The nascent Heatwave quickly came together with the addition of Spanish bassist Mario Mantese, Czechoslovakian drummer Emest Berger and American guitarists Jesse Whittens and Eric Johns. With so many musical roots between them, it was only natural that they rapidly developed a sophisticated sound, an edge which Temperton would use to push Heatwave ahead of their peers.

Jamming, and ceaselessly touring the London club circuit allowed Heatwave to define and refine their music, eschewing straight disco beats for a sound that certainly contained that element, but fused it with a rich funk groove. That hard work paid off as the band signed to U.K. label GTO (Epic in the U.S) and began formulating their first album in fall 1976. They were paired in the studio with GTO house producer/session guitarist Barry Blue, who'd had his own string of hit singles, "Dancing On A Saturday Night" and "Do you Wanna Dance" among them in the early 1970s.

The Quietstorm of "MAZE ft Frankie Beverly"

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WUV9UQ18

  • I remember a Day in my Life when I was
  • told by someone very special to me:
  • "always remember that no matter what
  • and how hard times will be,

  • WE ARE ONE and
  • I NEVER LET YOU DOWN
  • because I LOVE YOU SO MUCH".

  • Today I WANT TO THANK YOU for those words
  • because I knew you were REACHIN' DOWN INSIDE and
  • all we had were HAPPY FEELIN'S!

  • At that Moment it was JUST US.

  • HAPINESS and FAMILY were on my mind
  • because of this LOVELY INSPIRATION you
  • had given me with all those Words.

  • I looked in the Mirror and said to myself:
  • "This WOMAN IS A WONDER",
  • because I thought I was loved!

  • THE LOOK IN YOUR EYES at this GOLDEN TIME
  • OF DAY made me realize that I NEED YOU and I
  • felt like I was your LADY OF MAGIC!

  • We CHANGE OUR WAYS throughout the years
  • and I told you: "just CALL ON ME because
  • I DON'T WANT TO LOSE YOUR LOVE".

  • You left in YOUR KIND OF WAY and I CAN'T
  • GET OVER YOU and you will always have
  • A PLACE IN MY HEART.

  • IN TIME I will be able to "WISH YOU WELL!"

The Quietstorm of "The Dramatics"

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CGAWTQC1 VOL. 1
&
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PXOVB1NZ VOL. 2

Before assuming the name the Dramatics, the vocal sextet comprised of Rob Davis, Ron Banks, Larry Reed, Robert Ellington, Larry "Squirrel" Demps, and Elbert Wilkens initially released two singles as the Dynamics on the Wingate imprint that saw no chart action. The group became a quintet upon Ellington's exit, and also changed their name to the Dramatics. They migrated to the Sport label and in 1967 released their first single to hit the charts, "All Because of You," which peaked at number 42 on the R&B charts. However, in spite of the exposure and limited record sales, some groupmembers became discouraged, which facilitated a major personnel change. William "Wee Gee" Howard replaced lead singer Reed, and Willie Ford of the Capitols replaced bass Rob Davis. Also during this time, the Dramatics had signed with producer Don Davis' production company.

Even though the group managed to stay together, the ensuing years were unproductive for chart action and sales. Between 1967 and 1971, the Dramatics made very little noise on the national scene. By the end of 1971, Davis summoned the group to the studio to record producer/songwriter Tony Hester's "Watcha See Is Watcha Get." The single was the Dramatics' first major national hit, peaking at number three on the R&B charts, and sustaining chart action for 15 weeks. That single was followed by the R&B Top Ten single "Get Up and Get Down."

The following year the Dramatics released "In the Rain," which was also penned by Hester. The single torpedoed its way to the number one spot on the R&B charts, maintaining that position for four consecutive weeks; the single also peaked at number five on the pop charts. Ironically, in spite of the national attention the group was receiving, another personnel shuffle was simmering.

Larry "L.J." Reynolds, who had been a member of Chocolate Syrup and was pursuing a solo career during this time, met Dramatics member Banks at the Apollo following a performance by the group. It just so happened that Howard was absent that night. Reynolds auditioned for Banks backstage; it was not too long afterwards that Reynolds, who was also signed to Don Davis' production company, began to occasionally sit in with the Dramatics during Howard's absences.

In 1973, Howard's decision to leave the group opened the door for Reynolds' entrance; Reynolds' vocal presence and permanent entry into the group was manifested with the release of the R&B Top Ten single "Hey You! Get Off My Mountain." And while Reynolds was replacing Howard, Lenny Mayes was replacing Wilkens, which spelled out identity problems for the remainder of the group. Wilkens formed his own version of the Dramatics and began touring. During this time and pending legal procedures, the name of the group was changed to Ron Banks & the Dramatics.

The Dramatics' success continued with mainly R&B Top 20 hits during the heyday of disco, cracking the R&B Top Ten just once more with "Welcome Back Home" in 1980. In 1981, Reynolds went solo; the group disband after Banks went solo in 1983. The group managed to stay active, reuniting to record new material every three or four years since the early '80s. They occasionally reunite for concert events.

The Quietstorm of "All 4 One"

Comprised of Tony Borowiak, Jamie Jones, Delious Kennedy, and Alfred Nevarez, the Californian contemporary R&B vocal quartet All-4-One's 1994 debut album sailed into the Top Ten thanks to the enormous hit single "I Swear," which stayed at number one for 11 weeks. My Brother's Keeper followed in 1998, and a year later the group returned with On and On.

  • Here's their story...
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7ZBKJ3LZ

Anticipation swept across the crowd at the sold-out amphitheater. It had been too long and yet it felt like yesterday since the devoted fans had seen the band. "And now...", boomed the announcer, "Please give a big welcome to the band that can break your heart and put it back together...All-4-One".

The lights, the music, the energy all came together at once.

To their fans and friends, All-4-One had fallen off the face of the earth. Most, if not all, were unaware of the reason that they had been chillin'. They were unaware that one of the members of the band had a motorcycle accident, a rain-slicked highway at night and tangled wreckage. The fans knew the hits, the millions of records sold and the world tours...but, what they didn't know was that unlike drugs, greed and petty fighting, three variables that break up most bands, the All-4-One hiatus was much different.

With one of the guys in recovery, the band simply would not replace him and go back to work just to make money. Against the protests from those in the music industry, the band stood fast and waited until they could return to their public and give them the magic that was real.

With All-4-One, it isn't just the name of the band....it's the way it is.

Well I did found 21 nice songs from them so

The Quietstorm of "L.T.D."

  • L.T.D

Long-running funk outfit L.T.D. -- Love, Togetherness and Devotion -- was formed in Greensboro, NC in 1968 by keyboardist Jimmie "J.D." Davis and bassist Abraham "Onion" Miller, both former backing musicians for the great Sam and Dave. Upon relocating to New York City, the twosome recruited guitarist Johnny McGhee, horn player Carle Vickers, saxophonists Arthur "Lorenzo" Carnegie, Toby Wynn and Abraham Miller, and trombonist Jake Riley, Jr. Vocalist/drummer Jeffrey Osborne also signed on before the group settled in Los Angeles, where Osborne's brother, keyboardist Billy Osborne joined the lineup as well. L.T.D. signed with the A&M label to issue their 1974 debut Love, Togetherness and Devotion. On their third LP, 1976's Love to the World, the group scored their first Top 20 pop hit, "Love Ballad." The follow-up, 1977's Something to Love, included the Top Five smash "(Every Time I Turn Around) Back in Love Again," and four years later L.T.D. returned to the Top 40 once again with "Shine On." However, Osborne then exited to pursue a solo career, and despite the additions of vocalists Leslie Wilson and Andre Ray, the band's commercial fortunes dimmed. In the wake of 1981's Love Magic, L.T.D. disbanded, but during the early '90s McGhee reformed the group, with 1999's Marry You featuring vocalists Greg Henneghan, Nakeisha Turner and Ronnie Henson, bassist Terry Gamble, keyboardist Ryan Cooper, drummer Jay Nichols and percussionist Mamadi Nyasuma.~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
