  • "Late Night Motown" is an unusual collection of Ballads which contains no hits and only a few songs that are by Motown's biggest names but therein lies it's charm and curiosity value. All of the tracks have been released before but that doesn't deter this from being a really worthwhile collection.
  • It starts with "What Love Has Joined Together" which should be well known to most Motown fans as it's been covered many times. On this occasion we get the sublime version by the classic Temptations line up which is followed by the Four Tops wonderful "Where Did You Go". Further down the line there's Gladys Knight & The Pips "Since I've Lost You" and Marvin & Tammi's spine tingling "If This World Were Mine".
  • However, it's the less well known artists that make this collection a 'must have' for even the casual Motown fan. To name but a few there's Kim Weston's "A Little More Love", "Steal Away Tonight" Barbara McNair, "Hurt A Little Everyday" Brenda Holloway, "Shoe Shoe Shine" by the underrated Dynamic Superiors and Bobby Taylor & the Vancouver's controversial "Does Your Mama Know About Me" about a mixed race relationship.
  • This collection is a useful introduction to perhaps what is the more obscure side of Motown. Hopefully it should widen fans interest to purchasing some of the brilliant Anthologies that have been issued in the past few years.

The Awesome Voice of AUDREY WHEELER

The reason I post both her albums here is:

Her awesome Voice never got the credit she deserves and 99% of her albums

Are QUIETSTORM

You may not know the name Audrey Wheeler, but you've certainly heard her voice. She

sang lead vocals on '80s dance band Unlimited Touch's "Searching to Find the One" and

Jeff Lorber's 1985 hit "Step By Step." A very much in-demand session background

vocalist, she can be heard on recordings by Madonna, Billy Ocean, Freddie Jackson,

Melba Moore, Glenn Jones, D Train ("Misunderstanding"), Keith Washington ("Missing

You"), Najee, Eric Gable, Kashif and Me'lisa Morgan's hit cover of Mother's Finest's

"Love Changes," Atlantic Starr's smash cover of the Staple Singers' "Let's Do It

Again," the System ("Don't Disturb This Groove," "Midnight Special"), and Kathi Sledge, among others.

Some of the artists she backed returned the favor when Wheeler made her major-label

debut in 1987 for Capitol Records with the album Let It Be. In 1991, Wheeler dueted

with MCA artist Omar Chandler on a cover of the Brainstorm ballad "This Must Be

Heaven" on his self-titled album.

The Quietstorm of "MICHAEL HENDERSON"

Someone very special to me, wrote me an email

2 days ago:
"That link is okay. But I did not see a quiet storm for my homeboy Michael Henderson. You should know about him."
Of Course I know about him (you thaught me everything there is to know about him) and I know he was born in the same City then you!!!
so here it is:
  • THE QUIETSTORM OF MICHAEL HENDERSON

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OHOIX6GT

  • Vocalist/bassist Michael Henderson has enjoyed successful careers as a player and performer. He moved from Yazoo City, Mississippi to Detroit in the early '60s, and was a session player. As a 13-year-old, Henderson played bass with the Fantastic Four, Detroit Emeralds, Billy Preston, and other Motown acts in 1964 and 1965. He later toured with Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin before joining Miles Davis. Henderson played and toured with Davis for seven years. When he met drummer/producer Norman Connors, Henderson pitched him some songs. Connors recorded "Valentine Love" on his Saturday Night Special LP, featuring Henderson with Jean Carne. This was his vocal debut, and it reached nubmer ten on the R&B chart. Henderson wrote two other hits for the LP, "We Both Need Each Other" and "You Are My Starship," which peaked at number four.
  • Those successes landed Henderson his own Buddah deal in 1976, and in 1978 he got his first Top 10 R&B hit with "Take Me I'm Yours" for Buddah. Henderson recorded for Buddah from 1976 to 1983, earning his biggest hit in 1980 with "Wide Receiver," a number four hit. He moved to EMI in 1986. Henderson also recorded "Can't We Fall in Love Again" with Phyllis Hyman on her own LP, and sang with Bobby Womack and Johnnie Taylor, as well as producing the Dramatics. He also helped discover Cherrelle, who was his next door neighbor in the late '70s. She sang background and toured with him for four years.

The Quietstorm of "SHIRLEY MURDOCK"

I give you another

AWESOME

female Voice..................!!!!

  • I always loved her lyrics and the messages she gave with her songs!!!

  • Singer/songwriter Shirley Murdock is best known for the ethereal ballad "As We Lay," which was produced by Roger Troutman. Murdock started out singing gospel music in her native Toledo. Troutman hired her as a background singer for his family's group Zapp, who had several hits on Warner Brothers (or its Reprise imprint). Based on this success, Troutman began recording tracks with Murdock and lead singer Sugarfoot of the Ohio Players, among others, at his Dayton-based recording studio Troutman Sound Labs.

Murdock and Troutman's first charting single was a Warner single issued as Roger (Featuring Shirley Murdock), "Girl, Cut It Out," which charted at number 79 R&B in early 1985. Murdock was signed to Elektra Records with the pumping "No More," which made it to number 24 R&B in early 1986. Then came her signature hit, "As We Lay," written by Zapp's Larry Troutman and keyboardist Billy Beck (of the Ohio Players). The tender, melancholy ballad made it to the R&B Top Ten and peaked at number 23 pop in 1986. Her LP Shirley Murdock went gold, also helped along by the follow-up hits "Go on Without You" and "Be Free." She also released full-lengths in 1988 (A Woman's Point of View) and 1991 (Let There Be Love). In early 2000, Murdock toured in the inspirational/gospel play, Be Careful What You Pray For with Cuba Gooding and David Peaston.
