- "Late Night Motown" is an unusual collection of Ballads which contains no hits and only a few songs that are by Motown's biggest names but therein lies it's charm and curiosity value. All of the tracks have been released before but that doesn't deter this from being a really worthwhile collection.
- It starts with "What Love Has Joined Together" which should be well known to most Motown fans as it's been covered many times. On this occasion we get the sublime version by the classic Temptations line up which is followed by the Four Tops wonderful "Where Did You Go". Further down the line there's Gladys Knight & The Pips "Since I've Lost You" and Marvin & Tammi's spine tingling "If This World Were Mine".
- However, it's the less well known artists that make this collection a 'must have' for even the casual Motown fan. To name but a few there's Kim Weston's "A Little More Love", "Steal Away Tonight" Barbara McNair, "Hurt A Little Everyday" Brenda Holloway, "Shoe Shoe Shine" by the underrated Dynamic Superiors and Bobby Taylor & the Vancouver's controversial "Does Your Mama Know About Me" about a mixed race relationship.
- This collection is a useful introduction to perhaps what is the more obscure side of Motown. Hopefully it should widen fans interest to purchasing some of the brilliant Anthologies that have been issued in the past few years.
